The Lake Oswego Sustainability Network (LOSN) is advocating for a shift away from gas-powered landscaping equipment due to its harmful impacts on health, the environment, and community well-being.
Why It Matters:
- Gas tools create extreme noise, pollute the air with toxic fumes, and damage ecosystems.
- They pose risks to human health, wildlife, and soil quality.

Healthier Yard Practices:
- Use electric tools or manual options like brooms and rakes.
- Avoid herbicides and pesticides.
- Leave leaves in place to support soil health and pollinators.
How You Can Help:
- Switch to electric landscaping tools.
- Talk to your landscaper about going gas-free or use a local landscaper that already uses electric tools (see list here).
- Join the campaign, write a letter to the editor.
- Request a yard sign to show your support.
Together, the neighborhood can create quieter, healthier, and more sustainable.
