South Shore Fire Station – Update
September, 2025
FACT: Every Lake Oswego Firefighter is a certified Paramedic! This is the highest medical certification outside of a hospital, and is very rare among Fire Departments.
Update: An Architect has been selected, and the South Shore Fire Station conceptual design is now underway. The firm, Hennebery Eddy, has several fire stations in their portfolio including Portland’s Fire Station #28 and Clackamas Fire District Stations 16 and 19. Design concepts will be based on the spatial and functional program prepared by the Lake Oswego Fire Department.
A modern, fully operational station means our firefighters can respond quickly to all critical incidents – fires, accidents, and medical emergencies – across the entire city. The new station will include dedicated decontamination areas with environmental controls to protect fire fighters from the cancer causing agents that contaminate their equipment and clothing after a fire. This vital feature will significantly reduce their exposure to carcinogens, protecting the health of those who protect us.

The photo above shows multiple fire engines responding to a call – this is common in Lake Oswego where 2 engines always respond to cardiac event calls. This means that 6 paramedics attend cardiac arrest and other major medical calls. The result – recovery from cardiac arrest in Lake Oswego is twice the national average!
Stay tuned for more information in future updates!
