September is National Preparedness Month—celebrate by learning how to keep your family safe during disasters like earthquakes, floods, or winter storms.

- Build a “2 Weeks Ready” emergency plan for your household.
- Stop severe bleeding with a Stop the Bleed demonstration from the Lake Oswego Fire Department.
- Safely shut off your home’s water and natural gas.
- Use FRS and GMRS emergency radios to communicate during disasters and learn about neighborhood emergency communications.
- Protect your home from wildfire and sign up for a free Home Assessment.
- Prepare your pets for emergencies.
- Properly fill and stack sandbags for flood protection.
- Understand portable emergency water distribution and sanitation.
- Sign up for local emergency alerts.
- See how the Lake Oswego Police Department uses drones during emergencies.
- Learn about hazard trees and provide feedback on the City’s Tree Regulation Amendment project.
- Meet specially trained support dogs from HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response.

- Navigate the Fire Safety Obstacle Course.
- Explore the Lake Oswego Public Library’s new bookmobile.
- Climb aboard emergency vehicles, including a fire brush rig, water rescue vehicle, police vehicle, and snowplow.
Free Giveaways (while supplies last):
- BPA-free 3-gallon water containers (limit one per Lake Oswego household) to help you build your emergency water supply.
- 1-gallon collapsible water bags for transporting water during emergencies.
