The Palisades Neighborhood Association is one of the largest and most active neighborhood associations in Lake Oswego, with over 4,000 residents and 1,700 homes. Our mission is to enhance neighborhood identity, improve community life, and provide input to elected city officials on critical matters affecting our neighborhood. We’re looking for an organized, motivated, and community-minded individuals to join our team as a volunteer. Training will be provided by existing board members to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

Area 6 Representative & Board Member- Volunteer Position

Palisades Area 6 Representative: this Board position is open to residents living on Carter Place, Greentree Circle, Robb Place or Carlson Court.


Time commitment: Attend six or more 1 hr. PNA Board meetings via Zoom (about one a month) + one to two PNA General Meetings per year (in-person ). Read and respond to updates and messaging between board members. Give input on neighborhood related topics that interest you. Total: About 2-3 hours per month.

Description of Role: Area representatives work for the betterment and general improvement of their community. It is a chance to have a voice and impact on both neighborhood and City business. It is also a wonderful way to get to know your neighbors and your community. The PNA has 13 separate areas, each with their own area rep. The area rep term is for one year but reps can run as often as they wish.

Palisades Area 10 Representative: this Palisades Board position is open to residents living on Park Road, Alpine Way, Dellwood Drive, Canyon Drive or Fernwood Circle.

Palisades Area 12 Representative: this Palisades Board position is open to residents living on Palisades Crest, Delenka Lane, Hillside Drive, Bree Court, Anduin Trail, Sundown Court, Overlook Court, Lookout Court, Overlook Circle, Hillside Way, Overlook Lane, or parts of Overlook and Hillside Drives.

Time commitment: Attend 6 or more 1 hr. PNA Board meetings via zoom (less than one a month) + annual Spring General Meetings per year. Give input on neighborhood related topics that interest you.

Volunteer Opportunity: Admin and Social Media Position

Position: Volunteer Admin
Hours: 4-5 hours per month
Location: Remote (occasional in-person meetings may occur)
Commitment: Ongoing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the PNA Board with administrative tasks such as organizing digital documents, and schedules.
  • Assist in managing email communications and responding to inquiries.
  • Coordinate meetings by creating agendas, distributing materials, and sending reminders.
  • Update PNA’s website and social media platforms (NextDoor and YouTube) as needed.
  • Attend virtual PNA Board meetings and provide administrative support to the Leadership Team.


Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer programs (email, Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
  • Familiarity with online platforms desired (Zoom, Basecamp, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Passion for community involvement and improvement.

The PNA is a vibrant and active association made up of resident volunteers who strive to make our neighborhood a better place to live, raise families, and foster community spirit. Our mission is to serve as a citizen advisory body, enhancing neighborhood identity and character, and providing input to city officials on key matters that impact our neighborhood.

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Emergency Preparedness Committee Coordinator to help ensure the safety and readiness of our neighborhood in the event of an emergency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate overall neighborhood emergency preparation, response, and recovery plans to ensure the PNA is prepared for emergencies.
  • Act as the liaison between the PNA and the City of Lake Oswego’s emergency management team to align neighborhood efforts with citywide initiatives.
  • Lead efforts in developing and maintaining neighborhood-specific emergency plans, ensuring they are up-to-date and practical for the community.
  • Work with PNA Treasurer to apply for City grants available for Emergency Preparedness supplies and events
  • Build a committee of volunteers from the neighborhood to help with various emergency preparedness activities.
  • Foster a culture of safety and preparedness within the neighborhood through regular communication and events.


Qualifications:

  • Passionate about community safety and preparedness.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communicator who can effectively disseminate information to residents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with city officials and local emergency management teams.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of emergency preparedness is a plus, but not required.


Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 6-8 hours per month, with flexibility.
  • Attendance at monthly PNA meetings (mostly virtual) and occasional workshops or training sessions with the City of Lake Oswego’s emergency management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and execute a variety of neighborhood events throughout the year, including social gatherings, educational workshops, seasonal celebrations, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinate event production, including securing venues, arranging equipment, and managing event logistics.
  • Work with PNA Treasurer to apply for City grants available for community event supplies
  • Oversee all event logistics, including scheduling, set-up, clean-up, and staffing.
  • Develop and monitor event budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining quality.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers to assist with event tasks and logistics.
  • Evaluate the success of each event, providing feedback and making improvements for future initiatives.


Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, residents, and vendors.
  • Comfortable managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Creative and enthusiastic about bringing the community together.
  • Event planning experience is a plus, but not required.

We are looking for an environmentally conscious and proactive Sustainability Coordinator to lead efforts in promoting sustainability within the neighborhood and help protect our local environment for future generations. Below are SUGGESTIONS of what this role could include. We encourage you to customize this role in a way that makes sense with your interests and time commitment.

  • Promote sustainability practices and initiatives within the neighborhood, such as waste reduction, water conservation, and energy efficiency.
  • Monitor city, county, and state regulations, ensuring the neighborhood is informed of relevant environmental policies and guidelines.
  • Research and stay updated on emerging environmental issues, trends, and solutions that can benefit the neighborhood. 
  • Create content to be shared on the PNA website and newsletter. Sharing content from other sources is also an option.
  • Raise awareness through education campaigns, events, and communication materials, encouraging sustainable behavior among residents.
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and government bodies to collaborate on sustainability initiatives.
  • Organize and oversee neighborhood-wide sustainability events, such as recycling drives, tree planting days, and environmental workshops.
  • Work with the PNA board to align sustainability goals with broader neighborhood plans and city objectives.
  • Serve as the neighborhood’s sustainability liaison, representing PNA at city or community meetings focused on environmental issues.
  • Create and distribute educational resources (e.g., tips for sustainable living, updates on environmental regulations) through the PNA newsletter, website, and social media.

Qualifications:

  • Passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship.
  • Organizational and research skills preferable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with other PNA members, residents, and external stakeholders.

  • Email three neighbors to subscribe to our free neighborhood newsletter so that they can get news, event announcements and neighborhood related surveys. Share this subscribe link.
  • Put up a Palisades Neighborhood Association yard sign in your front yard. Contact us and we’ll deliver the sign to you and pick them up 2 -3 weeks later.
  • Join a PNA committee. What’s your passion and interest? Whether you have just a couple of hours or want a larger role, there are all kinds of opportunities behind the scenes or out in front. Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP) Project Coordinator

Primary Role:

  • Handles NEP grant applications, grant approvals, reviews receipts for reimbursement and is the single point of contact between the entire Palisades Neighborhood Association (PNA) and the City.
  • To be successfull in this role you should be organized, communicative.
  • Time commitment: From 8-12 hrs. throughout the year

Process:

  • Accepting NEP proposals: Anyone living in the Palisades Neighborhood Association can submit proposal(s) to the NEP Coordinator along with estimated costs throughout the year. They should follow the application guidelines and answer the questions related to their proposal.
  • PNA Board will Vote on Which Items To Include in our NEP Proposal: During the month of March PNA board meeting the NEP Coordinator asks the board to vote on the proposed item(s). NEP Coordinator encourages person(s) proposing the item(s) to attend the meeting to answer questions that might come up. The PNA board then votes on which items should be included in the NEP grant proposal.
  • Developing and Submitting the NEP Grant Proposalt: During the NEP grant proposal period (usually the month of May) the NEP Project Coordinator:
    • Fills out the NEP grant proposal application based on items approved by the PNA Board;
    • Gets sign offs from the PNA Chair
    • Submits the proposal form to the city in early May for the initial review process
    • Provides additional information requested by the city
    • Revises and submits the final application to the City by the deadline (typically May 31).

What Happens Next:

  • Iris McCaleb from the City forwards the NEP grant proposals to the grant review committee and then to the City Council who review it and awards certain grants.The NEP Coordinator will receive a letter of award from the City and will share it with the PNA Leadership Team.
  • As items are purchased from the approved grant list, the project close-out form is filled out by the person requesting reimbursement. They will attach digital copies of receipts and photos and then submit all to both the NEP Project Coordinator and the PNA Chair. The NEP Project Coordinator submits the reimbursement request to Iris at the City for reimbursement.
  • Reimbursement checks are then sent directly to the person who purchased the item(s).
